Grade 9 & 10 students that have not handed in their exam permission forms by 3:30 today will be expected to be at school during exam week.

Ms. Cibula-Gaiser is here today for students needing to hand in their paperwork for the work experience credit.  Also, any students needing paperwork for Credit for Employment please stop by and see her.

There is a summer job opportunity with the Town of Minnedosa on their "Green Team". The job runs end of June until end of August, Monday to Friday, 7-4.  If you are interested please drop off your resume at the Town Office.

Last day of classes for Grade 12's is Tuesday, June 14th.
Last day of classes for Grade 11's is Wednesday, June 15th.

This means only 10 days of classes remaining for Grade 12 students and only 11 classes remaining for Grade 9-11 students.  Be sure to get your incomplete assignments finished by these dates otherwise you will be in school during exam week.

Congratulations to the MCI baseball team who defeated the MacGregor Mustangs 19-9 in the zone semi finals.  The team was down 8 runs and rallied in the 3rd inning scoring 10 runs!  Way to go team! The finals will be in Plumas tomorrow at 5:30 against the WMCI Warriors. 

Great job track team on a strong showing yesterday.  All track athletes please meet in the gym at first break.

The girls west end washroom is closed for renovations.

Friday, May 13, 2022 - Day 1

Due to rising flood waters, there will be no access to MCI from the south side.  Please avoid the bridge by the castle.

Our Baseball team started off the regular season in Neepawa last night with a slightly convincing win over Neepawa in 5 innings. The team scored 19 runs compared to Neepawa’s 2. Great play Team!
Come out and cheer on our team for our home opener this Sunday as we face Rivers/Elton in game 2 of our regular season. Game time is 5:30.

All library laptops and chargers that are signed out during the day must be returned at the end of the day.

Girls rugby game tonight has been postponed.

Ms. Cibula-Gaiser is at MCI this morning for any students wanting information regarding apprenticeship or Credit for Employment.

Students are reminded to stay clear of the water in the south field.  Due to rising water levels the outdoor basketball course are off limits.

TCS is looking for volunteers for the Track & Field meet on Thursday May 19th.  Please see Mrs. DeMontigny if you are interested.  Students must be in good standing in ALL their courses.

DID YOU KNOW....Toilet plume is a term used to describe what happens when the force of flushing a toilet sprays microscopic particles of pee and poop up to 2.7 feet in the air.  That means the spray can reach approximately a 6 foot radius.  Think about that the next time you are hanging out in the bathroom.

TCS is looking for volunteers for their track and field meet on Thursday, May 19th.  If you are interested in assisting please see Mrs. DeMontigny.  Student volunteers must be in good standing in ALL their courses.

MCI/ECI baseball team played a double header yesterday against the NACI Tigers. Our Team played well but lost the first game 7-10 . Our Team won the second game 10-1. Good start to the season Team.  Our Home Opener is this Sunday vs Rivers/Elton at 5:30 pm. Come out to cheer our team on.

Badminton Provincials were held last week and MCI had 16 students participating - a record number for MCI.  We had 4 players move on to the playoff round and all other players got some valuable experience playing at the provincial level.  Jaden T finished first on the consolation side.  Victor L and Callie M finished 5th overall at the provincial level.  Congrats to all on a successful season.

Masks are not mandatory but Public Health still highly recommends the use of them (especially when indoors and in close contact).  Students and staff are strongly encouraged to continue to wear them.  All students need to be respectful of the individual choices and personal space of others.  MCI will continue to encourage distancing especially in highly congested areas.

The SV boys volleyball players played their final game of the season vs. Rivers yesterday and battled for 5 sets in a closely contested match.  Good improvements were evident for the team this year.  Well done boys!

You might notice that Mr. Paradis is the best dressed phys. ed teacher in the building today.  That means that our MCI food drive has exceeded its first 50 pounds in collections.  Keep the donations coming, when we reach 100 pounds it will be Mr. Jacobson's turn to wear a unique clothing item.

The varsity soccer girls with the help of a few of the boys beat Major Pratt both games!  Thanks for a great season girls.

The SV boys volleyball had a successful home tournament on Saturday.  They place 3rd and continue to show good improvements.  Big thank you to all the volunteers and score keepers (Emily, Katie, Delainey, Taylor), door supervisor and Mr. Paradis for helping out and getting the live stream setup.

Congratulations to the Chancellor hockey team who defeated Birtle in a pre-season game last night by a score of 4-0.  Goals were scored by Adrian D.(2), Luke G., and Keagan G.  Assits were from Jaden T., Jake W., Harry C., Ozy A., Nathan P., and Luke G.  Jackson B. and Daylan H. shared the tender duties and stopped 28 shots combined.

Girls varsity soccer beat MacGregor again last night with a shut-out by Meredith E.  Goals scored by Annalyn Q., Ashley M., two goals from Tyanne M., as well as a hat-trick from Abby-Jo W.  Final score 7-0!

The boys soccer team defeated MacGregor 2-0 yesterday thanks to 2 goals by Victor L.  They move on to the Zone 7 finals next Tuesday.  Boys are reminded of their practice at 5:30 on Thursday this week.

On September 30, we will mark the first annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.  This federal observance will occur in conjunction with Orange Shirt Day and is intended to provide an opportunity for Canadians to acknowledge and reflect on the legacy of residential schools and learn about our collective responsibility for advancing the truth and reconciliation in all aspects of our lives.  Since public schools will be closed in observance of the day, MCI is recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day on September 29 this year.  Please wear an orange shirt if you have one, or orange stickers will be available to wear.  

This week, teachers will be raising the awareness of the legacy of residential schools to honour the resilience of residential school survivors, their families and communities.  Students are encouraged to take time this week to listen, learn and reflect on how they can support reconciliation, this week and for all weeks to come.  

Congratulations to the boys soccer team who hosted a small but successful tournament on Saturday.  The team won their game against Dauphin but were defeated by Swan Valley.  Both games kept the keepers Colby Pentecost and Rem Lemoing busy in the net.

We are very excited to begin to return to some pre-pandemic activities this year. There are still a number of precautions and protocols that we need to continue to do to ensure the health and safety in our school.

§ Masks are required for all staff, students and visitors while indoors at MCI.

§ Hand sanitization continues as you enter and exit the school and each classroom. Students are encouraged to wash and sanitize their hands often throughout the day.

§ Students and Staff are required to self-screen daily and stay home if they are exhibiting any signs of cold, flu or covid symptoms.

§ To avoid congestion, we will continue to limit the number of people in the halls and washrooms.

§ Lockers – limited use only – Lockers should not be accessed throughout the day. Please continue to carry your books with you.

§ As you noticed this morning there are staggered entrances and exits for the school. All grade 9/10 students will enter through the WEST doors and the grade 11/12s will enter through the EAST doors

§ Water fountains remain closed – the water refill stations remain open. Students are encouraged to bring reusable water fountains from home.

§ Canteen – there will be no canteen available for the time being. We may be able to revisit this throughout the year. The vending machines remain available during breaks and lunch for students to access.

§ Lunch – Grade 9/10 students will eat in the library and grade 11/12 students will eat in the canteen. Once students have finished eating, they will be encouraged to go outside while the weather is nice to give everyone a well needed mask break. If you would like any PE equipment please see Mr. Jacobson or Mr. Paradis. Students who sign out equipment are responsible for the return.

If you are interested in being part of any student groups like Student Council, CHANGE, EcoGroup or yearbook (basically any extra-curricular that isn't a sport) you should be at the meeting on Thursday Sept 16 at lunch time on the bleacher outside. for more information check with Mrs. Storozynsky, Mrs. Proven-Luhowy or Mrs. Barrett. Students from any grade are welcome to be part of the MCI Student Leadership Committee - just attend the meeting.

Students are encouraged to check out the MCI webpage for daily announcements and they also play throughout the day on the TV outside of the office.
