Credit Union Youth Board

Who are we and what do we do?

The Minnedosa Credit Union Youth Board takes applications from MCI Grade 10 students each spring. After interviews, 5 or 6 grade 10s are chosen to be part of the youth board during their grade 11 and grade 12 years at MCI. The MCU Youth Board manages the MCI clothing and promotional items sales. The MCU Youth Board uses the profits from these sales to support a school or community project chosen by the MCU Youth Board. Anything else we do is up to you, as the MCU Youth Board can decide what types of projects or learning experiences they want each year.

What will You learn?

Our goal is to further enhance your leadership and teamwork skills. You will learn how to effectively run a business meeting and run a small business (clothing sales). Each meeting will feature a guest speaker from either the MCU staff on business and financial management skills or from the Minnedosa business community on different aspects of their business. The MCU Youth Board chooses the speakers from the community that are of interest to the Board.

MCI SCHOOL CLOTHING

"Can I order a school jacket?" "Can I get a soccer hoodie?"

The answer to both of these questions is YES! MCI has changed what types of school clothing are available to order. Students can order MCI jackets and recognize the activities they participate in by placing the names on the sleeve. Track jackets and a heavier jacket are both available. This change in practice means that activity specific jackets are not available to order (eg. a volleyball jacket). Both cost and school pride were considerations in this change in practice. While all types of school clothing are available for purchase through the student group called the Credit Union Youth Board, MCI wants to avoid having many expensive items that students may feel pressure to purchase. The CUYB will always balance quality and cost when pricing items to order. All school clothing (from tshirts to jackets) is optional for purchase and will never be required to be part of a team or club. Likewise, students will never be required to purchase a uniform to wear in athletic competition. Uniforms will be purchased and provided by the school. Mrs. Barrett is the staff contact for the Credit Union Youth Board.
